AFTER SCHOOL MIDDLE SCHOOL

SPMS Students will use bus #124 this year.
After school activity buses will run on Wednesdays and Thursdays beginning Sep. 3.
Students attending after school activities will use bus #47 on those days to attend ASMS.

INCLEMENT WEATHER REMINDER: If Anne Arundel County Public Schools close early or close for the day due to inclement weather, the After School Middle School Program is also closed.

REGISTRATION INFORMATION

2008-09 Registration continues but space is limited.

Registration requires
1. Signing and submittal of the Certificate of Intent (located on Page 10 of the Manual below)
2. Payment of the non-refundable fee of $205
($75 Registration Fee and two weeks tuition @ $65 per week to be applied to your final two weeks of the program year).
3. Return of all forms including a copy of the most recent record of Immunizations by Friday before the start of the school and ASMS program year.

MISSION STATEMENT

To provide a safe, enjoyable, supervised, & enriching after school environment that meets the developmental needs of middle school age youth.

PROGRAM COMPONENTS

* Recreational activities (both indoor and outdoor) designed to meet the physical and social needs of middle school-age students.

* Homework and study time with staff assistance.

* A variety of scheduled activities, including craft projects, game playing, occasional movies, group and socialization skill-building, & community service.

* An emotional climate characterized by positive interaction of staff members with students, as well as parental involvement and support capacities.

We desire to offer an option for children who may otherwise wait alone at home or with siblings or peers until parents return from work.


PROGRAM INFORMATION

Days & Times: 2:00pm - 6pm every day SPMS is in session. Program will open early on days when SPMS dismisses early for any reason other than inclement weather (such as staff in-service training days or SPMS early closure due to mechanical, heating or electrical problems, etc.)

Inclement Weather Policy: When SPMS is closed for the whole day or closes early for reasons of weather, program will also be closed.

Cost: $65/week (5-day session, fee includes daily snack)
Payment for the month is due by the end of the 1st week of each month. Failure to make payments on time may result in a late fee. Receipts can be provided which may be used for income tax preparation purposes.

Location: Holy Grounds Youth Center

Transportation: Provided by school bus (#124 for 2007-08) from Severna Park Middle School. Within walking distance of Severn School and St. John the Evangelist Catholic School.

Maximum Enrollment: 35 students

Food: One healthful snack per day is provided. Drinks include milk and fruit juice. Food includes fresh fruits, cheese and crackers, Goldfish crackers, pretzels, chips with salsa, pizza and assorted cookies (such as Ginger Snaps, Oatmeal Cookies and Vanilla Wafers)

Sample Schedule:
2:50-3:15pm - Transition time with snack
3:15-3:35pm - 1A - Group A - Physical Activity and Group B - Creative Activity
3:34-4:00pm - 1B - Group A - Creative Activity and Group B - Physical Activity
4:00-4:45pm - Quiet Time and Homework
4:45-6:00pm - Active Time and Elective Activities

Departure Policy: Only parents or parent-authorized persons may pick up a student. Authorization must be in written form signed by the parent. The authorized person picking up a student must enter the building and personally sign the student out each and every day.


** The ASMS program is a licensed child care provider through the Maryland Department of Education's Child Care Administration.
